Social media is easily the pinnacle of communication in our modern American society. Almost every business, organization, or general assembly has some form of Social media. Be it Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and in rare cases a Myspace..., Any worthwhile business has a social media manager who deals with customers and outstanding issues with the clientelle. This video focused on a different aspect of social media and showed the power it has in uniting people through Africa with something as simple as a hashtag and a joke. 60,000 people retweeted this hashtag, revealing that this may be a step necessary for the pan african movement. I connect this to the American Dream in a sense that communication and motion are major ideals of Americans. We as the American people constantly use social media, albeit for different purposes. Americans have banded together on social media to fight for the causes they believe in, whether it is right or wrong is another story but still, people fought for minimum wage being raised on social media, using the hashtag "Fightfor15" as means of spreading the cause and raising awareness of an issue lying inherently in the American economic society. I enjoyed this speech as it helped present the power behind social media, and how it can be used for good. We as American people have the chance to change what is wrong and do good things for one another with the power of communication and unity through social media.
