H.P Lovecraft says that fear is the strongest human emotion, and the fear of the unknown is the greatest fear. He's right for the most part, fear is contagious, it spreads like wildfire and can cause people to do insufferable things, survival instincts on high, it causes people to act on impulse and none other than fear. This speaker talks about that, he talks about the guns and the police, standing as an intimidating force of power, instilling fear in the populice. However he also talks about people becoming stronger than the grain and shouting back at the police, screaming and defying fear. Soon this spread as fast as the fear did, Damon Davis did not allow himself to fall prey to the fear tactics. This is important to the american dream, because fear was a major tactic used for racism. They would instill fear among people, and create this dark skinned enemy, this idea that people of color were less than the white man, and that they need to be locked in bars. This fear of drugs and that the people who take them are less than the people who do not. This is a terrible and disgusting part of the American dream, the Eugenics movement creating fear amongst people that their genes were inferior, and that they dont deserve the same rights as other people, fear spread quickly and chaos ensued. People like Damon dont pander to this fear, they stay strong and resist the negative fear tactics, showing the power of unity amongst people, and how strong courage really can be.
